Projects
Below is a collection of five assignments I have written throughout my time at the University of Delaware. Each piece gave me the opportunity to hone my writing skills and gain experience in different forms of professional writing.
Audio Lab Report
Comparing Point Count and Recording Methodology in Detecting Bird Species Richness and Diversity and Analyzing Sound Characteristics of Five Bird Species’ Vocalizations: My group and I collected point count and audio recording data at three different locations. We used an audio recorder, microphone, and Raven Lite 2.0 (an editing software provided by Cornell University) to record, analyze, and compare different avian species vocalizations.
MD Camera Trap Photo Report
I analyzed over a hundred photos taken from six Reconyx Hyperfire 2 trail cameras located in Western Maryland. TimeLapse 2 software was used to process photos and mark animals. The data was then collected and analyzed and conclusions were drawn about the bobcats photographed in that area.
International Whaling White Paper
This paper was done for my wildlife ecology and conservation senior capstone class. It is ecological writing which uses scholarly article references and scientific data. The purpose of this assignment was to show what I had learned during my time as a wildlife major. I was given a topic, “Should Japan be allowed to whale in international waters?” and a three page limit. This assignment helped me practice writing big in a small space. I had to effectively give information about, analyze, and draw conclusions on a huge ecological debate. This paper also helped me practice using scientific language and tone. This paper combined everything I had learned at university, from research and data analysis to writing skills.
